The Ssese Islands are an archipelago of eighty-eight islands in the northwest portion of Uganda’s Lake Victoria, the second-largest freshwater lake in the world. About half of the islands are inhabited; their size varies from less than 2.5 acres to over 40 kilometres in length.  The largest town, Kalangala, serves as the headquarters of the largest district, and is located on Bugala, the largest island. All the 84 islands of Ssese islands are covered with a magnificent equatorial forest and are a paradise for birdwatchers and travellers who love tranquillity, peace and leisure.
